Makeup Starter Kit

When you're just starting out with makeup, knowing where to begin can be overwhelming and there are so many brands and products out there to choose from. I've put together 9 makeup products that I think would make a perfect starter kit and they're also budget friendly. These 9 products are what I call staples in any makeup bag and they are all you need to create a full face of makeup, no expert skills required.

Face primer is a must have in your makeup kit as it extends the wear of your makeup, so you can look flawless all day long. Rimmel's Stay Matte Primer is suited to oily skin types and it helps to mattify as well as minimize the appearance of your pores. It provides me with a smooth, silky base for my foundation and it does an incredible job at controlling shine throughout the day. It doesn't feel greasy and it absorbs into my skin very nicely. Primers also help with the application of your foundation to blend smoothly and evenly over the skin.

The Designer Brands Longwear 24 Hour Foundation does exactly what it claims. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin, doesn't cake and it lasts all day without wearing off. It contains Vitamins E & C as well as Aloe Vera so not only does it look amazing on the skin, it's also good for your skin too. I like to apply this foundation with a beauty sponge and the finish is just flawless! The coverage is very full and I haven't noticed it to oxidize on my skin which is a big positive.

Concealer does a lot for us. It hides our dark under eye circles and covers those nasty blemishes when we're having a bad skin day, which is why concealer is a staple in anyone's makeup bag. One that I've been enjoying lately is L.A Girl's Pro Conceal. It does a brilliant job at camouflaging your skin concerns including redness, imperfections and dark under eyes. The coverage is quite opaque and creamy in texture but it feels light on the skin. I like the brush tip applicator, you just brush it on wherever you need it and blend away.

One of Australis' best selling products is their amazing Fresh And Flawless Pressed Powder and I can see why! The powder is finely milled and sets your foundation in place whilst adding a touch more coverage to your base. It helps to keep my oily skin at bay and just leaves my skin looking almost airbrushed. A great addition to your makeup kit for anyone who has oily, sensitive or blemish prone skin. Dust it over your face using a powder brush, focusing on your t-zone and your base is done!

One of my favourite brow products is the Brow Artist Plumper by L'Oreal Paris. It contains tiny fibres for filling in those sparse areas, giving them the appearance of a fuller brow while it defines and sets them in place. The small wand makes it so easy to comb, shape and fill your eyebrows in no time at all. So effortless and fuss free.

OXX is a makeup brand exclusive to Kmart and all of their products are $2. I thought a duo eyeshadow would be perfect for a beginner. It has a muted purple shade that can be used all over the lid and the dark brown can be applied in the crease, outer v of the eye and the bottom lash line for a smokier look. I was pleasantly surprised by the pigmentation of this eyeshadow duo, not bad for a few dollars! There isn't much information about this brand on the Internet so if you're an Australian who would like to know more about OXX, best thing would be to stop by at your local Kmart and have a look at their range.

Mascara makes a huge difference to your overall makeup look. I like to apply 2-3 coats of Nightfall by Be A Bombshell Cosmetics on my bottom and top lashes for a full lash effect. For best results, curl your lashes beforehand so it makes your eyes appear larger and wide awake.

What I love about Makeup Revolution's Bursting With Love blush trio from the Blushing Hearts range, is the pigmentation and how beautiful it looks on the cheeks. You have 2 shades of pink and a highlighter so you can use the shades individually or swirl the brush into all 3 for a gorgeous radiant glow to the cheeks. This blush is one of my favourites and I highly recommend it, it's inexpensive and really looks amazing on the skin!

The last product I have to share with you that I think would be great for a makeup starter kit, is the Just Bitten Kisssable Balm Stain by Revlon. The shade Honey is a lovely shade for everyday wear, it adds a natural wash of colour and it lasts all day by staining you lips. It is so moisturising and there's no need for sharpening so all you do is wind it up. It's a great fuss free lip product that you can just put on and go. Mine is very well loved, the actual text around the tube has worn off! That's how much I love this shade and it is by far the most popular from the range.

I hope you found this post helpful and you were able to pick up some tips and ideas for creating your own makeup starter kit.
