The Primer Edit

Primers play a very important role in assisting with the longevity and staying power of our makeup, so we can look flawless all day long. Here are my top 5 face primers (mostly drugstore) that I know I can always rely on.

When my complexion is a little more on the red side, I opt for a green tinted primer like the e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Green Face Primer. I like this primer for a few different reasons - it has that silicone texture (which I love in a primer) so it smooths out my skin making my foundation apply evenly, it slightly fills in my large pores and it also helps to minimize redness giving me a more even skin tone. If you're looking for a budget friendly face primer, e.l.f. have a good range to choose from for all skin concerns.

Another primer that's fantastic for it's colour correcting properties is Bare Minerals' Prime Time Neutralising Foundation Primer. Not only does it tone down redness, but it also brightens my overall complexion making my skin look brighter and more youthful. It's great if you have a drier skin type as it doesn't emphasize those dry patches, making it a super hydrating primer that your skin will just drink up.

I absolutely love Australis and one of my go-to primers by them is their Cya Later Pores Spot Primer. It has a very similar texture to Benefit's Porefessional but for a fraction of the price, and it works incredibly well! I mainly focus this primer in my t-zone to control oil and areas where I have large pores to fill them in. It gives me a matte finish to my skin which I personally really like, and the silicone is just wonderful for oily skin types as it doesn't leave that greasy feel. My base looks amazing every time I use this and it also ensures my makeup doesn't slide off my face throughout the day.

The cold air really tends to suck the life out of my complexion making it appear dull and lackluster. Which is why I always reach for a primer that will brighten up my skin and give me a healthy glow. L'Oreal's Lumi Magique Primer does just that! It evens out the skin's texture quite nicely and gives you a beautiful radiance. Definitely recommend it if you prefer a dewy base to your makeup.

While I was in the states earlier in the year, I FINALLY decided to pick up the Veil Mineral Primer by Hourglass at Sephora. I can now understand why this particular primer got so much love because it is simply perfect. It's lightweight so it doesn't feel thick and heavy on the skin, and it just makes my skin feel like velvet by how luxurious the formula is which also makes my foundation glide on with ease. It is quite on the pricey side but I think it's very worth the investment.
