5 Beauty Myths Busted

There's a lot of beauty advice out there that we all tend to fall for, so today we are setting the record straight with these 5 popular beauty myths.

OILY SKIN DOESN'T NEED MOISTURE

Back in the day I was guilty of believing this little tale and having oily skin myself, it seemed plausible because why would I need to add more oil to already oily skin? Truth is, if you don't moisturise then the skin will overproduce oil because there isn't any there. Using moisturisers and facial oils actually help balance out the skins oil production, therefore making you less oily.

YOU DON'T NEED SUNSCREEN ON A CLOUDY DAY

False. The sun may be hiding behind the clouds and reducing the amount of light that's reaching us, but those UV rays are STILL hitting our skin. I cannot stress enough how important including sunscreen in your daily routine is, because it protects our skin from those damaging rays and helps to prevent premature aging. So no matter the temperature or the forecast always slap that sunscreen on, your skin will just love you for it!

SHAVING MAKES HAIR GROW BACK THICKER

Now this is a myth that I never understood because I've been shaving since I learnt how to shave (10 years ago), and the thickness of my hair hasn't changed a bit. The tips of our hair come to a fine point and when we shave, we're cutting the hair at a blunt angle. So as your hair begins to grow back, that stubble can feel and appear thicker - but it's not. I consider this myth totally busted.

EXPENSIVE PRODUCTS ARE BETTER THAN INEXPENSIVE ONES

Over the years as my beauty obsession blossomed, the one thing that I've learnt is that expensive doesn't always mean better. In some cases that may be true, but it's all about the ingredients and quality of the products. I'm a drugstore girl at heart, and I have come across a bunch of amazing beauty and makeup products that are equally or better than those with a higher price tag.

CREAMS GET RID OF CELLULITE

Oh how I wish this weren't a myth but unfortunately, lathering on a topical cream won't cure cellulite. They might slightly reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily, but they are no miracle worker. The same thing goes for coffee scrubs; you might see a slight improvement but again, it's only temporary. Cellulite is quite common and could be due to genetics, but all I know is that I'll be all over that coffee scrub this bikini season!
