What's In My Makeup Bag | February

The last time I gave you a look into my makeup bag was almost six months ago which is very unlike me because I normally update you every three months, but somehow I totally lost track (oops!). Anyway, enough back story and let's dive head first into what makeup goodies I've been carrying around with me these past few weeks.

NYX TOTAL CONTROL DROP FOUNDATION

I had been eyeing this off for quite a while but the $25 price tag seemed pretty steep for only 13ml of product (for a drugstore foundation at least). I gave it a try not knowing what to expect and I have to say, it is flipping great! The consistency is really thin and it glides on like silk over the skin. 2-3 drops is all I need for a light coverage base which manages to hide small imperfections and even out my skin tone. I LOVE the semi-matte velvet finish - it looks almost airbrushed and it never feels heavy on the skin. You can definitely build up the coverage by adding more drops if you feel the need to but to be honest, I would just reach for a full coverage foundation straight off the bat instead of applying 4+ drops and then having to repurchase it within a month. It is absolutely beautiful as a sheer foundation and I've been really liking it during summertime.

PIXI BY PETRA GLOW BOOSTER

After I have thoroughly moisturised my skin, I will dab some of 'White Pearl' over the high points of my face (mainly focusing on my cheekbones to emphasize them), and then follow up with a light layer of the NYX foundation. It gives my complexion a natural, "lit from within glow" that looks so much more youthful and it has been my go-to base duo lately for day to day.

L'ORÉAL LUMI MAGIQUE TOUCH OF LIGHT HIGHLIGHTING PEN

This concealer isn't the best for completely erasing dark under eye circles however, it's nice as an under eye illuminator to help you look well rested and refreshed. It reminds me of the YSL Touche Eclat Concealer but a heck of a lot less damaging to your bank account, so I think it's a good dupe for it. I already have a back up of this one because I use this 80% of the time and it's just so handy for travelling and quick touch ups on-the-go.

RIMMEL INSTA FIX & MATTE POWDER

Face powder is a makeup bag staple for me so I always have one with me wherever I go. There's nothing overly exciting or innovative about this translucent pressed powder; it just does what all good powders do and that is to control shine. A light dusting over my t-zone keeps me matte and if I have any oils peeking through during the day, I'll dab on some powder with my brush and my makeup looks as good as new!

TARTE AMAZONIAN CLAY BLUSH

'Paaarty' is a gorgeous versatile soft nude-pink that goes with any makeup look and complements my pale complexion nicely. Absolutely beautiful pigmentation that feels incredibly soft and the addition of skin loving ingredients such as vitamins a, c and e is just a bonus! Tarte are very well known for their blushes and now that I understand the hype, I kind of want all of the shades in the range.

MAYBELLINE BROW DRAMA SCULPTING MASCARA

If I had to choose between a brow pencil or mascara, I wouldn't even hesitate on going for the latter simply because I prefer the au naturale, undone brow look (Ă  la Cara Delevingne). I'll either opt for a fibre brow mascara to add some thickness and to fill in my minor sparse areas, or I'll reach for a basic one that gives me a slight tint and sets the hairs in place. The circular tip wand is quite unusual and may be difficult to work with for some (I truly don't see the purpose of it), but I'm not phased by it at all and it gets the job done which is all that matters!

MECCA COSMETICA TINTED LIP DE-LUSCIOUS

I've ditched lipsticks this Summer and have been wearing something a little more toned down like this tinted lip balm in 'Sorbet'. It smells like gooey, toasted marshmallows which is almost good enough to eat and it is immensely hydrating on the lips! I love the neutral tint it gives and the subtle shimmer is really flattering. It's such a no-fuss lip product that is super easy to wear and it ties my whole natural makeup look together.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA

Believe it or not, but I have only just gotten around to trying this mascara so I know I am extremely late to the party by many years. I had very high expectations because it's probably THE most hyped mascara in the beauty world and it definitely deserves its cult favourite status! It lengthens, separates, curls and thickens all in one and I think I'm obsessed. It has one of the best mascara formulas I've tried and the results just blew my socks off. Every maker lover needs this in their life!

  1. The Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is probably my favorite mascara of all time. It is absolutely amazing with my lashes -- so much volume, and definition, and length. No mascara tops it!

    Lovely post! x
