6 Self-Care Acts For Your Best Year Ever

2017 wasn't the year of self-care, mainly because the entire concept of practicing it wasn't as easy as it seemed and I was often left feeling deflated and despondent. The good news is that there are ways we can integrate self-care activities into our lives to boost our well-being, which is something I am determined to put into action in 2018. So it's time to put yourself first and make this your best year ever by taking care of you!

UNPLUG. AKA DIGITAL DETOX

Technology is a wonderful thing; it keeps us connected, it's exciting and it makes life a heck of a lot easier. The thought of turning your phone off might leave you horrified, but I'm only talking 1-2 hours a day (this includes ALL electronic devices, so no cheating). Switch off your internet too if it helps. This will assist in reducing stress, eliminating distractions and getting you back in touch with nature.

KEEP COMPLIMENTS ON FILE

Did a lovely stranger compliment your outfit or that gorgeous shade of lippie you were wearing that day? Did a fellow blogger comment on that amazing flat lay you put together or how aesthetically pleasing your Instagram feed looks? Screenshot that stuff, take notes and file them under 'compliments' in your phone. Whenever you aren't feeling like yourself, refer back to those for a pick-me-up.

TAKE TIME TO CHILL

When was the last time you went for a quiet walk down the beach, meditated or had a pampering spa experience? We get so overworked and exhausted from everyday life that we need to stop and take some time away every once in a while to rejuvenate and unwind. Have a staycation or simply dedicate the entire weekend to baths, candles and reading.

PRIORITISE SLEEP

Aim for a solid eight hour sleep per night and set up a schedule or even download an app to keep track of your cycle. Not only does sleep deprivation effect the body but it takes its toll on the mind as well, so do yourself a favour and get some zzz's because it does absolute wonders!

WRITE A GRATITUDE LIST

Make it a daily routine to write down 5-10 things you are grateful for. This helps to shift your mood and attitude for a healthier mindset and outlook on life. You'll find it to be really calming and soothing by reminding yourself of the things that truly matter.

TAKE A DUVET DAY

Or in more Aussie terms - chuck a sickie. Sometimes we just need a day to alleviate stress/pressure by relaxing in our pyjamas, all wrapped up in bed watching trashy TV with a box of cookies. A day very well spent if you ask me!

How do you practice self-care?
