Matte or Gloss?

Matte lips were ALL the rage a year or two ago and it was the trend that filled our Instagram feeds with richly pigmented plush finishes, but the high shine lip has made a miraculous comeback and it's not going anywhere! So are you a matte lip or glossy lip person? For me, it all depends on what I'm in the mood for on the day and what makeup look I'm trying to achieve.

BOURJOIS ROUGE EDITION VELVET

With over 25 stunning shades to choose from in this range, you are bound to find a colour that just speaks to you. 'Plum Plum Girl' is way out of my comfort zone (it looks super vampy against my fair skin), but the way I like to wear this is by diffusing the colour with my fingertip so it doesn't look too stark and I'm left with a lovely soft plum pout that's much more wearable during Autumn/Winter. Once this baby is on, it ain't budging so it truly does have some serious staying power! It applies like a dream, feels just like velvet on the lips and the level of pigmentation is outstanding!

REVLON ULTRA HD LIP LACQUER

"Always silky, never sticky" is how Revlon describes their Lip Lacquers and they're not lying because they don't have that thick, gloopy consistency where you feel like your lips are glued together. 'Rose Quartz' is one of my go-to glosses to chuck on without any fuss and I'm a sucker for a good rosy mauve lip. The shimmer throughout formula may look intense in the tube but it's actually very flattering on the lips and almost has a metallic-like finish. It's definitely not a sheer gloss and you can absolutely wear it alone, or over the top of a nude lipstick to enhance the colour and give you that high-impact shine.

L'ORÉAL COLOUR RICHE MATTE ADDICTION

L'Oréal never fail to wow me when it comes to pretty much every beauty/makeup product on the shelves, including their lippie range. 'Retro Red' is basically your quintessential vintage pin-up girl shade with a hydrating matte finish. It applies like a dream over the lips and the colour pay off is nothing short of amazing. The packaging has a classic, elegant feel to it and the scent is one of my favourite things about it! A gorgeous shade for Spring, Summer or for a night out with cat eye winged liner and fluttery lashes. Simply cannot go wrong with this knockout lip colour!

RIMMEL OH MY GLOSS

Clear glosses are extremely versatile as they can transform your lipstick finish from matte to shiny with just one swipe, so it's always handy to have one in your collection. These particular glosses aren't the best in my opinion; I find them to be a bit sticky which drives me crazy and it's the sole reason why they're sitting in the back of my drawer. Their shades are so pretty however, a few have noticeable glitter in them (like 'Love Bug') which just aren't my cup of tea.
