In The Spotlight | Maybelline Total Temptation Eyeshadow & Highlight Palette

Maybelline have dropped a new makeup range called Total Temptation that includes a mascara, eye brow pencil as well as an eye and cheek palette that I'll be going into detail about in today's post. Might I just add, it's WAY better than their other eyeshadow palettes!

This 10 pan multi purpose palette retails for $29.95 and holds a total of 6 matte eyeshadow shades and 4 shimmers ranging from light to dark.

The palette is laid out in a way that has your makeup looks sorted just by splitting it in half (not literally obviously), so you have your day time appropriate look on the left and your smoky nighttime look on the right. Of course this is simply a suggestion by Maybelline and you can mix and match any shade you please to create any look you desire - it is totally up to you!

As I mentioned in the intro, this particular palette is a heck of a lot better than their popular eyeshadow palettes like The Nudes and The Blushed Nudes in terms of pigmentation because to be quite blunt, they are a huge waste of money. I'm talking barely any colour pay off, difficult to blend and looks completely patchy so I haven't had the best experience with Maybelline's palettes unfortunately. I honestly did not have high hopes but I was left feeling pleasantly surprised by how soft, blendable and pigmented these shadows are which is a big step up! I mean, it's not Anastasia Beverly Hills quality and it's definitely not the best palette I've found from the drugstore but overall it is nice.

I noticed that there is a fair bit of kick back once you dip your brush into the shades which for me isn't a total deal breaker at all, and any fallout can easily be dusted away. The looks you can create are endless and they are super wearable for day or night. The matte black is actually decent which is hard to come by with drugstore products, and the 2 shimmery highlighter shades can be worn over the lids to add a little more oomph.

I really love the colour scheme in this palette - they are just so up my alley (especially those muted pink tones!). Depending on how intense you want your eye look, you may have to build up the colours for them to really stand out and they can seem a bit powdery. The glitter/shimmer in a few of the shades are slightly chunky so they just sort of blend away or eventually disappear during the day.

This eyeshadow palette is definitely one of Maybelline's best in my opinion however, I'm not sure that it's worth the $30 price tag (even though it works out to be roughly $3 per shade) so I'd suggest perhaps purchasing it on sale if you are in the market for a drugstore 2-in-1 palette. If you're not crazy about eyeshadow and just want a simple wash of colour on the eyes or if you're a beginner looking to branch out with different looks then by all means give it a try! It does the job for day to day and the shades are very pretty, but I would recommend jumping onto Colourpop's website instead where you'll find amazing quality palettes for a similar price that will not disappoint.
