Review | Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter

Fairly new from Maybelline is their Master Chrome Highlighter in 'Molten Gold' (stunning isn't it?!). After several swatches later and a few wear tests, I'm here today to bring you my thoughts and opinions on this golden-hued metallic powder.

DESCRIPTION

Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter delivers the look of a melted metallic highlight in an easy to apply highlighting powder. Features reflective pigments for an eye-catching chrome effect.

PACKAGING

Very classic Maybelline packaging and surprisingly feels quite sturdy compared to most of their other products. The transparent lid makes it really easy for me to find it in my drawers when I'm in the mood for a golden glow. I think the embossed geometric pattern in the powder itself looks very cool and quite similar to their Master Blush Palette

FORMULA

The texture of this highlighter doesn't feel powdery or chalky whatsoever - it almost feels creamy and the colour pay off is pretty great too! It's super reflective in the pan and it swatches beautifully for a liquid gold effect.

'MOLTEN GOLD'

When wearing this alone as a highlighter, I need to be extremely cautious and light handed to avoid looking utterly ridiculous with gold stripes all over my skin (first world pale skin problems). So gold toned highlighters aren't typically what I reach for unless I'm trying to achieve the ultimate sunkissed, bronzed goddess look in the summertime. If the sight of chunky shimmer makes you cringe (it certainly does for me!) then I have good news because this has more of a smooth, fine shimmer, chrome effect that looks absolutely gorgeous when the light hits your skin.

PROS

High colour pay off
Smooth texture
Doesn't fade
Lovely metallic sheen
Isn't chunky or glittery
Affordable

CONS

Too dark for paler complexions

TO SUM UP

I think this particular shade would be much more suited to tanned and deeper complexions for that warm glow. The formula is great; it's not powdery and it doesn't leave you with chunky specks of glitter (*shudder*). It definitely does look like melted gold on the skin, so Maybelline have done really well in capturing that chrome effect. The pros clearly outweigh the cons so I do recommend checking it out but for me personally, I don't think I'll be getting much use out of it simply because it's far too golden for my skin tone. Still a stunning product regardless, and if more shades were to be released I would be all over them in a heartbeat because I truly think they would be on par with some higher end highlighters on the market!
