The Perfect Christmas Red Lip

Nothing says festive holiday season like a traditional, classic bold red lip. It's an absolute staple in anyone's makeup collection and it can transform your entire look into a glamorous one. So here are my top tips for creating the perfect and easily achievable Christmas red lip.

Firstly, for best results you'll want to give your lips a bit of a scrubbing (a sugar lip scrub or toothbrush will do just fine) to rid any dry, flaky skin and then follow up with a conditioning lip balm.

Red is definitely a high maintenance shade but with the right undertone for your complexion, it will look simply beautiful so it's very much worth the effort.

I always I repeat, ALWAYS apply a lip liner prior to any sort of red lip product, whether it be in liquid or bullet form. It acts as a base to ensure there will be no feathering or bleeding of any kind, and it will also assist in the longevity of your lip colour.

The NYX Retractable Lip Liner in 'Red' has a blue undertone which I find to be more flattering against my fair skin, so it's a go-to of mine. It is richly pigmented with a slightly dry formula (resulting in a matte finish) but it doesn't tug or drag along the lips. I line my lips as precise as I can and fill them in completely with the liner. If you're after a true red, 'Ruby' from the same range is a lovely option also.

The next step is to apply your favourite red lip colour over the top. I'm currently loving Innoxa's Classic Colour Lipstick in the shade 'Wild Cherry' which is a gorgeous vibrant red-pink. This particular lipstick is a touch sheer so the deeper red lip liner peaks through ever so slightly. It's quite creamy in texture and contains Vitamin E for smooth and soft feeling lips, as well as leaving a nice satin finish.

If your application or outline isn't as neat and crisp as you would like, bring out the concealer and clean up the edges with a lip brush.

To avoid the awkward lipstick-on-the-teeth moments, put your index finger in your mouth and pull through (you're welcome!).

You can stop here if you like or if you're wanting a little something extra, a swipe of a shimmery gold lip gloss would be the ultimate icing on the cake.

What lip colour will you be rocking this Christmas?
