Review | Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation

Maybelline's newest addition to their foundations is the Dream Velvet which I picked up while I was in the US, but now that it has hit Australia I thought it was time that I share with you my thoughts and opinions on this brand new foundation.

Description
First hydrating matte foundation for 100% velvet-smooth perfection. The unique gel-whipped formula blends flawlessly to provide the perfect air brush finish for up to 12 hours. It combines velvet-soft pigments with a refreshing gel, concentrated with 2x more water leaving a soft-matte coverage.

Packaging
Light, simple packaging and easy to dispense the product out of the squeezy tube. So you have easy control over how much or how little product you'd like to use with no mess or fuss.

Formula
It has a very mousse-like consistency which feels light and airy so your skin can feel like it can breathe. Blends like a dream and leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth and soft as well.

Coverage
Provides medium coverage but can be layered on without it looking cakey if you do need a little extra coverage. Also hides blemishes and camouflages redness really well.

Finish
I absolutely LOVE the soft-matte finish. It never looks powdery and it makes my skin look flawless and air brushed. I didn't notice it to emphasize any dry spots or sink into my pores, and it doesn't oxidize either which is fantastic. Claims to be a hydrating foundation and I would have to agree so it's great for drier skin types. Warm Porcelain is slightly too pink for my skin tone as I'm more cool toned, so that was a bit of a let down.

Longevity
It lasts okay throughout the day, but it doesn't look the best up close and personal. It could just be my oily skin though, because 2 hours after applying this foundation it just separated and looked cakey. Now I've tried using different primers but the results were no different. I've also tried blotting off the oil that had come up to the surface and touching up with a face powder, but it just added to the cakey-ness.

Pros
Hydrating
Smooth and soft texture
Flawless finish
Light and breathable
Great coverage
Doesn't oxidize or sink into pores

Cons
Not long wearing
Separated and looked cakey throughout the day
Poor shade range

Final Thoughts
The pros definitely outweigh the cons so I don't think this is a terrible foundation at all, but possibly not the best for oily skin types. I really wanted to love this foundation after seeing so many amazing reviews but unfortunately, it doesn't react to well with my skin. However, I really do love the demi-matte finish and how flawless it makes my skin look so I'd still wear this foundation, but only for short periods of time. Overall, not the best foundation for me personally but I definitely recommend that you give it a go for yourself, you may have better luck than I did!

Would love to hear your thoughts on the Dream Velvet Foundation!
